Antwan Carter Breaks LU Scoring Record

Senior Antwan Carter dropped 19 points and 11 rebounds for his thirty-eighth career double-double in a losing effort to MEAC leading Norfolk State on Monday night. In the process Carter passed Kevin Jefferson for the most career points in Longwood basketball history. Jefferson’s previous record was 1,806 set in 1990. Jefferson is one of two men’s basketball players in the Longwood Athletics Hall of Fame, the other is Jerome Kersey who is now third on the all-time scoring list.

Carter has had the opportunity to play more games than Jefferson and Kersey but his record is still outstanding. The big man has had an immediate impact for coach Mike Gillian since setting foot on campus four years ago. With four games remaining Carter has a great opportunity to perhaps pass 1,900 career points. Jefferson’s record held for over twenty years, it will certainly be interesting to see how long Carter’s record will stand.

Antwan is set to be honored Wednesday night in Farmville for Senior Night as the Lancers take UVA-Wise in their final home game of the year.
