Lancers Weekend Roundup

Men’s Basketball (10-19): The men’s basketball team got smacked down at the hands of the NJIT Highlanders Saturday, losing 94-51 in Newark. Previously this year LU beat NJIT in Farmville 85-70. Mike Gillian’s squad will now travel west to take on perennial power Gonzaga on Monday and then ending the season against Seattle. The Red Hawks defeated the Lancers in Farmville  two weeks ago 100-99 in overtime.

Women’s Basketball (7-22): Coach Bill Reinson’s squad finished the season on a high note, first defeating Big South opponent Gardner-Webb 76-65 earlier in the week. Then the Lancers traveled to Newark to knock off NJIT 69-66. Senior Brittanni Billups had 25 points and 9 rebounds in her final game as a Lancer.

Baseball (5-2): Buddy Bolding’s squad swept a series at Coppin State, winning 11-0, 13-1, 6-5 in Baltimore. Dustin Sollars had a big day at the plate on Saturday going 6-10 with two doubles, a triple, four runs, and six RBI during the doubleheader. Kyler Morgan and Tyler Wislocki picked up their second win of the season, while Brandon Vick got his first win of his collegiate career. LU will return home this weekend to take on Temple from the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Softball (11-3): Kathy Riley’s squad remained undefeated at home (8-0) winning all four of their games in the Longwood Spring Classic. The Lancers started the weekend sweeping Oakland 7-3, 9-3. Then the Lancers defeated Iona 1-0 on Sunday and ended the day defeating Saint Peter’s 11-0. The Lancers will now head to Orlando for Citrus Classic, which will include matchups against Ohio State, Southern Miss, NC State, Purdue, and a televised matchup on ESPN3 against Fordham.
