Coastal Carolina’s leading rebounder, Sam McLaurin, will be leaving Conway after starting for three years as a Chanticleer. McLaurin averaged 10 points and nearly 8 rebounds per game in the 2011-2012 season. He is also the school’s career leader in blocked shots.

“Ever since after last season, I’ve been talking it over with my family,” McLaurin said. “We all talked about it for a while. It was one of those things where we just had to say ‘Let’s wait and see. Let’s not rush into a decision. Let’s keep weighing the pros and cons.’ At the end of the season, I went back home, talked to my family and we pretty much came to the decision that this pretty much was the best thing for me.” via Myrtle Beach Online

McLaurin will graduate this May and will be given one year of immediate eligibility for the 2012-13 campaign. McLaurin will seek a university with a law school to finish out his college career. The Chants will now have to fully replace their front court with Jon Pack also graduating. Coastal will have to rely on senior-to-be Bisi Addey who just averaged 2.5 points per game last year and freshman redshirt Tyler Poole, who is coming off of a serious knee injury.
UPDATE (5/4): McLaurin has announced he will transfer to Illinois
