Longwood University grabbed their first win over a BCS level program Tuesday night with a victory over Texas Christian 82-79. The Lancers were coming off a 82-44 loss to South Carolina on Saturday.
The Lancers burst out to a 13 point lead at halftime over the Big 12 member Horned Frogs behind 20 points from Tristan Carey. TCU then later took a slim lead in the second half, but Longwood battled back behind a strong performance from Karl Ziegler to grab a 7 point advantage. Ziegler would finish the game with 14 points and 10 rebounds, his first double-double as a Lancer. Ziegler was the heart and soul for the Lancers tonight.
After a back and forth free throw affair in the final 90 seconds, TCU was able to tie the game at 79 after a poor walk call and a missed foul for Lucas Woodhouse. But as Coach Gee said, basketball karma would rear its head and Lucas Woodhouse would drain a game winning three with 1.7 seconds left in the game.
Tristan Carey would finish the game with 31 points and 6 rebounds against he Horned Frogs.
Longwood will look to keep the momentum going Saturday in Longwood’s home opener against Mars Hill.
Congratulations to Coach Gee and the Lancers on the biggest win in program history in the Division I Era!
